Courtney Christian School Celebrates Expansion to Meet Growth and Demand

When Courtney Christian School opened its doors seven years ago in August 2015, Founder and Head of School Sue Courtney spent the preceding summer overseeing the renovation of an existing building in Hammond into a school with 11 classrooms to accommodate 127 students. In the following years, portable buildings were added to accommodate the growing student body, and by August 2021 the school had nearly tripled its enrollment – and completed its first expansion project.

Today, January 19, 2022, Courtney Christian School celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new facilities, which include three new, state-of-the-art buildings. The gymnasium, early childhood building and middle school building – named “Ruth Burton Hall” in memory of beloved educator Ruth Burton who was essential in establishing the middle school math curriculum at Courtney Christian School – became operational at the start of the 2021-2022 school year. The facilities offer more than a dozen new classrooms, offices and meeting space and are wired with advanced fiberoptic cables and Wi-Fi as well as smart TVs for interactive digital instruction. The new facilities together with the existing elementary school building now house more than 350 students in grades K3 to 8th.

Courtney Christian School is focused on continued growth to meet local demand. While celebrating the new facilities is a milestone for the school, there already are plans in place to expand the gymnasium to include bleachers, locker rooms and classrooms as well as develop nearby fields for the school’s Athletics program. Additional technology improvements, curriculum enhancements and equipment to support middle school science exploration will be implemented for the upcoming school year.

Courtney Christian School is committed to excellent education which includes a quality academic program, as well as imparting a Biblical worldview, developing Godly character and instilling the knowledge of our nation's Christian heritage.
